Acer rubrum ‘Red Sunset’ is een van de bekendste cultivars van de Rode esdoorn en wordt geroemd om zijn spectaculaire herfstkleur. Het blad verkleurt in oktober intens oranjerood tot dieprood, vaak iets later dan bij ‘Autumn Flame’. De boom groeit snel en vormt een dichte, ovale kroon met stevige takken. Dankzij zijn sierwaarde, regelmatige groei en vitaliteit is ‘Red Sunset’ een veel toegepaste laan- en parkboom.
